Postpartum Doula Support in Toronto —
from newborn to personal healing

Postpartum care is not about performing parenthood for you. It is about reducing the number of things you must hold at once, while helping you build the skills and confidence to care for your baby in a way that fits your family.

  • rest while your baby is safely and lovingly cared for

  • receive practical help with nursing, pumping, bottle or combination feeding

  • eat, shower or attend an appointment in your home

  • learn soothing, diapering, bathing and babywearing skills

  • enjoy simple nourishing foods prepared for you

  • talk through questions without judgment

  • keep bottles, pump parts and baby laundry manageable

  • make a realistic plan for the hours after the doula leaves

Emotional grounding

calm, non-judgmental place to talk about feeding, recovery, identity, relationships and the gap between what you expected and what the day feels like.

What a 5-hr Postpartum Visit Can Look Like.

Five hours can make a meaningful difference in your day. Your postpartum doula may help with newborn care, feeding support, light baby-related tasks, meal preparation and settling your baby so you can rest, shower, eat or simply catch your breath.

12:00PM

Check-in and priorities

Reviews the previous night, feeds, your recovery status and the two or three things that would make the visit feel useful.

12:30PM

Feeding and Newborn Support

Support the next feed, answer practical questions and take over burping, diapering and settling.

01:30PM

Protected rest for you

Care for the baby while you sleep, shower or eat. Prepare a simple meal or wash pump parts while the baby settles, depending on your priorities.

03:30PM

Light household reset

Complete agreed baby-related tasks, restock the changing area and prepare for the next feed.

04:30PM

Handoff and plan

Share what happened during the visit, note questions for your doula and decide what would be most helpful next time.

Why our Toronto families ask for Postpartum Support

The weeks after birth ask a lot of you at once: physical recovery, feeding, newborn care, interrupted sleep and an entirely new family rhythm. Daytime postpartum support creates practical breathing room while giving you an experienced person to turn to as you recover, learn your baby and find your footing.

49%

experience emotional or mental health challenges

Nearly half of Canadian mothers and birthing parents surveyed in 2024 reported emotional or mental health challenges during pregnancy or after birth.

60%

said those challenges began after birth

Among parents who experienced emotional or mental health challenges, the majority said they began during the postpartum period—not during pregnancy.

1 in 5

visit an emergency department after birth

Your Boboto doula helps you explore movement and positioning options permitted by your care team.

91%

of Canadian parents start out breastfeeding

Most Canadian families initiate breastfeeding, yet the sharpest decline in exclusive breastfeeding occurs during the first month postpartum—a period when questions around latch, supply, pumping and feeding routines commonly arise.

21%

were never asked about their emotional well-being

More than one in five mothers and birthing parents said no health-care provider asked about their emotional or mental well-being during pregnancy or after birth.

13%

had a postpartum health need that went unmet

More than one in eight parents reported needing health care after birth but not receiving it. Common barriers included long waits, not knowing where to find care and simply being too busy.

Day support, night support, or both?

Daytime and overnight support do different jobs, and plenty of families use both.

A daytime postpartum doula is there through the day — recovery, feeding, company, and a chance to rest while the sun's up.

night nurse or overnight doula takes the night shift so you get a real, unbroken stretch of sleep.

Not sure where to start? Our free consultation can help you decide where support will have the greatest effect in your household.

Families who often find daytime care very helpful

No matter the Postpartum experience you have, Boboto Postpartum Doula's create a safe space for you and your newborn to feel taken care of and nourished.

Having a baby for the first time comes with a steep learning curve. A postpartum doula can provide hands-on newborn care guidance, help you understand your baby’s cues and build confidence with feeding, soothing, bathing and everyday infant care.

You should not have to carry every part of postpartum alone. A postpartum doula can provide consistent, practical support with your newborn, feeding, meals and rest while giving you an experienced person to lean on as you settle into parenthood.

Postpartum recovery deserves time and support. Daytime doula care can help lighten the physical load after a vaginal or Caesarean birth by assisting with newborn care, meals, rest and baby-related household tasks while you focus on healing.

If your village lives far away, a postpartum doula can become a reliable part of your local support system. Our Toronto and GTA postpartum doulas offer practical in-home help, newborn guidance and a steady presence during the early weeks with your baby.

Caring for more than one newborn can make feeding, settling and finding time to rest especially demanding. Postpartum doula support for twins and multiples provides an experienced extra set of hands while helping your family develop routines that work for more than one baby.

Welcoming a new baby changes the rhythm of the whole household. A daytime postpartum doula can support newborn care and practical tasks so you have more space to recover, spend time with older children and adjust to life as a growing family.

When a partner returns to work, the daytime hours can suddenly feel much longer. In-home postpartum doula care provides hands-on newborn support, companionship and practical help so you have opportunities to eat, shower, rest and recover during the day.

I reached out to Tracy from Boboto Doula to book postpartum care (day and night) and I am so grateful I did because WOW! What a difference it has made in my healing. As a second-time, repeat C-section mom, I knew what kind of support I would need as I didn’t have any during my first and Boboto Doula delivered and more!

We had a wonderful experience with our night doula, Jenny. She was very knowledgeable, experienced, and caring throughout our time with her. As first-time parents, having her support with our newborn gave us so much confidence and peace of mind. Jenny was attentive to our baby’s needs, and offered us many practical advice.

FAQ

Questions about hiring Postpartum Support in Toronto

  • Not necessarily. A postpartum doula is a non-medical support professional. Some Boboto practitioners are also CNO-registered nurses, but nursing care is provided only when a registered nurse is identified and working within the booked service and their professional scope.

  • Care can begin after you return home or later in the postpartum period, depending on your needs and practitioner availability. Booking during pregnancy gives Boboto more opportunity to reserve preferred dates.

  • There is no universal number. Consider your recovery, partner schedule, feeding plan, nearby family, older children and budget. Many families begin with consistent four- or five-hour visits and adjust after seeing what the first weeks require.

  • Yes. Our postpartum care practitioners are trained to support you with  newborn care, meals, hydration, rest and household logistics while you follow clinical recovery instructions from your doctor. We do not assess your incision or provide medical treatment.

  • Yes, within their training. Boboto supports nursing, pumping, bottle and combination feeding without judgment. Complex or persistent concerns are referred to an IBCLC or regulated provider.

  • Coverage varies. OHIP does not fund doula care. Some employer or spending-account plans may reimburse eligible services, but Boboto cannot guarantee approval. Receipts must identify the actual practitioner and service delivered.
