Night Nurse & Overnight Newborn Care in Toronto

Expert newborn care that lets you rest and recover.

Welcoming a baby shouldn't mean facing every night alone. Boboto provides professional overnight newborn care in homes across Toronto and the GTA, giving parents more protected opportunities to sleep, recover and feel supported while their baby receives responsive, attentive care.

What does Overnight Newborn Care include?

Thoughtful, hands-on support through the night so your baby is cared for with attention and consistency while you have the space to rest, recover, and begin the next day feeling more supported.

  • new born changing_edited.jpg

From diaper changes and burping to those harder-to-settle moments, your practitioner responds to your baby’s cues throughout the night. We use gentle, responsive soothing techniques to help your baby feel safe and comfortable while giving you fewer reasons to fully wake between feeds.

  • bottle feeding baby_edited_edited.png

Whether your baby is breastfed, bottle-fed, formula-fed, or combination-fed, your overnight practitioner works with the feeding plan you have chosen for your family. Support may include preparing feeds, bringing your baby to you for nursing, paced bottle-feeding, burping, settling after feeds, and helping keep the night as calm and efficient as possible.

  • swaddling baby in crib_edited.jpg

Your night nurse helps maintain a safe, appropriate sleep environment throughout the night and supports routines that align with current safe sleep guidance. As your baby grows, we also help you begin noticing natural patterns and rhythms without forcing schedules that are not developmentally appropriate.

  • bottle and pump parts.jpg

The small tasks add up quickly overnight. Bottles, pump parts, and feeding supplies used during the shift can be washed, prepared, and reset so you are not waking up to a kitchen full of work in the morning. Where appropriate, your practitioner can also help organize milk storage and prepare feeding supplies for the next feed.

  • breastfeeding mom using phone.jpg

You should never have to wake up wondering what happened overnight. Your practitioner keeps track of important details such as feeds, diaper changes, sleep periods, and anything notable about your baby’s night. Before the shift ends, you receive a clear handoff so you know how your baby did and what may be helpful to watch for during the day.

  • tea night time.jpg

Overnight care is not only about the baby. It is also about creating more space for you to recover. Whether that means protecting a longer stretch of sleep, minimizing how often you need to get out of bed, bringing your baby to you for nursing, preparing water or a simple snack, or helping you feel less alone during the early weeks, our goal is to make the night feel lighter for the whole family.

Do you have more questions about overnight care and our matching process?

We know that hiring someone to care for your newborn comes with a lot of questions including insurance coverage, scheduling and matching process, caregiver vetting, and what to expect from Boboto care.

What an overnight shift actually looks like.

Most overnight shifts are scheduled from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM, with flexible timing available to suit your needs. Each night begins with a quick review of your care plan, ensuring our approach perfectly supports your baby’s feeding routine, developmental stage, and what will make you feel most comfortable.

Sample 8-hr overnight shift

10:00PM

Arrival, check-in and priorities

Your doula or night nurse arrives, checks in with you to review how the day went, confirm feeding plans and notes down anything your baby may need through the night.

10:30PM

Feeding & Settling

Your doula or night nurse may offer a bottle of expressed milk or formula, or bring your baby to you for nursing, followed by burping, diapering and soothing.

11:00PM

Parent settle for the night

Once your baby is comfortable, you can head to bed while your doula or night nurse takes over the surrounding newborn care.

12:00AM

Light reset & prepare

Bottles or pump parts used during the shift are washed, the feeding area is reset and your baby’s feeds, diapers and sleep are documented.

01:30AM

Overnight feed

Your baby is fed according to your feeding plan, or brought to you if nursing. Your doula or night nurse will handle diapering, burping and resettling afterward so you can return to sleep as quickly as possible.

02:30AM

Soothing and safe sleep

In between feeds, your doula or night nurse responds to your baby’s cues, offers comfort and helps them settle back into their safe sleep space.

04:30AM

Early morning feed

Another feed, diaper change and settling may take place depending on your baby’s age and natural rhythm.

05:30AM

Morning reset

Your doula or night nurse tidies the immediate feeding area, washes items used through the night and completes your baby’s care notes.

06:00AM

Morning handoff and recap

Before leaving, your doula or night nurse gives you a clear update on feeds, bowel movement, sleep and anything notable from the night.

Looking for something different?

We believe every family deserves access to nurturing, quality care no matter their financial circumstances. We offer sliding scale and pro-bono options for families who meet the criteria.

How it works

How we match your family

Choosing someone to care for your newborn is a deeply personal decision. We approach every match with warmth and intention, taking the time to understand the kind of presence, energy, experience, and care that would help your family feel most supported. Our goal is to connect you with someone you can welcome into your home with ease, trust wholeheartedly, and feel genuinely comfortable having beside you during such a tender season.

Step 1

Start with a consultation

We begin by getting to know you.

During your consultation, we talk about your due date or baby’s age, feeding preferences, household rhythm, and the details that matter most to you.

Step 2

Choose your care plan

With your plan in care place, we can thoughtfully match you with practitioners whose availability, experience, and approach align with the level of consistency and continuity you are looking for.

Step 3

Interview your candidates

This is where the matching process becomes truly personal. Rather than asking you to sort through a directory of profiles, we introduce you to 3–4 carefully selected candidates whose experience, availability, personality, and approach to care align with your care plan and the details you shared during your consultation.

Step 4

Select your care provider(s)

After your interviews, you choose the person(s) that feels right for your family. From there, we continue supporting you behind the scenes by coordinating schedules, helping manage changes, and finding coverage when plans shift unexpectedly.

Our goal is to make your care feel seamless, consistent, and well supported, so you are never left managing the logistics on your own.

Carefully Chosen, Thoroughly Vetted

The person caring for your newborn matters. So does the process used to bring them onto our team.

We carefully review the professionals who provide care through Boboto so families can make their choice from a trusted, qualified group and not an open directory of unfamiliar caregivers.

Infant CPR & First Aid

Practitioners providing hands-on newborn care are required to maintain infant CPR and First Aid training to enable them respond confidently in an emergency.

Credentials verified

We verify all relevant credentials.

Professional titles are represented clearly so you understand the background and scope of the person caring for your family.

Background screened

Each practitioner must complete Vulnerable Sector police background screening as part of our vetting process before providing care to Boboto families.

Professional Liability

Practitioners are expected to maintain professional liability coverage.

This provides an additional layer of professional accountability for both our families and our care team.

Boboto Trained

Every practitioner completes our internal Boboto training program and receives ongoing mentorship through the collective. This helps keep our team aligned on the standard of support families can expect from Boboto.

Our multidisciplinary team is here to meet you where you are—through pregnancy, birth, postpartum and early parenthood. Whatever stage of the journey you are in, you can find trusted professionals with the experience, warmth and expertise to support your family.

How much does a night nurse cost in Toronto?

The cost of overnight newborn care in Toronto can vary depending on the practitioner’s experience and credentials, the length of each shift, how many nights you book, whether you are caring for one baby or multiples, and the overall length of your support package.

Boboto offers both individual overnight shifts and multi-week care plans, allowing families to choose a level of support that fits their recovery needs, feeding plan, schedule, and budget.

How many nights of overnight help should I book?

There is no single schedule that works for every family. Some parents choose two or three nights each week to create reliable opportunities for recovery, while others prefer five or more nights during the earliest postpartum weeks.

The right schedule often depends on your recovery, feeding routine, partner availability, whether you have older children, the amount of family support around you, and how much uninterrupted rest you are hoping to protect. We can help you build a schedule that feels realistic for your household rather than simply booking more care than you need.

Night nurse, night nanny or newborn care specialist: what’s the difference?

The terms night nurse, night nanny, newborn care specialist, and overnight postpartum doula are often used interchangeably by families searching for newborn help, but they do not always mean the same thing.

A Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse is a regulated healthcare professional with nursing credentials. A Newborn Care Specialist focuses specifically on newborn care, routines, feeding support, soothing, and parent education, while a night nanny is a broader term commonly used for overnight infant care and may describe professionals with varying levels of training and experience. A postpartum doula supports both the baby and the recovering parent, with an emphasis on the whole family’s transition after birth.

At Boboto, we make those distinctions clear. Your practitioner’s background, qualifications, and scope of care are always identified so you understand exactly who is supporting your family.

Who is overnight newborn care for?

Overnight support isn't only for families who are struggling. Some families arrange care before their baby arrives because they want recovery time built into their postpartum plan. Others reach out after several difficult nights when they realize they need another pair of experienced hands.

Having a baby for the first time comes with a steep learning curve. A postpartum doula can provide hands-on newborn care guidance, help you understand your baby’s cues and build confidence with feeding, soothing, bathing and everyday infant care.

You should not have to carry every part of postpartum alone. A postpartum doula can provide consistent, practical support with your newborn, feeding, meals and rest while giving you an experienced person to lean on as you settle into parenthood.

Postpartum recovery deserves time and support. Daytime doula care can help lighten the physical load after a vaginal or Caesarean birth by assisting with newborn care, meals, rest and baby-related household tasks while you focus on healing.

  • Boboto-2805_edited.jpg

If your village lives far away, a postpartum doula can become a reliable part of your local support system. Our Toronto and GTA postpartum doulas offer practical in-home help, newborn guidance and a steady presence during the early weeks with your baby.

Caring for more than one newborn can make feeding, settling and finding time to rest especially demanding. Postpartum doula support for twins and multiples provides an experienced extra set of hands while helping your family develop routines that work for more than one baby.

Welcoming a new baby changes the rhythm of the whole household. A daytime postpartum doula can support newborn care and practical tasks so you have more space to recover, spend time with older children and adjust to life as a growing family.

  • baby_edited.jpg

When a partner returns to work, the daytime hours can suddenly feel much longer. In-home postpartum doula care provides hands-on newborn support, companionship and practical help so you have opportunities to eat, shower, rest and recover during the day.

Overnight care for twins and multiples

The terms night nurse, night nanny, newborn care specialist, and overnight postpartum doula are often used interchangeably by families searching for newborn help, but they do not always mean the same thing.

Welcoming twins or multiples often means managing overlapping feeds, diaper changes, settling, pumping, bottles, and very little uninterrupted sleep. Experienced overnight support can help make those first weeks feel significantly more manageable.

Your practitioner can assist with feeding both babies according to your chosen plan, diapering, burping, soothing, settling, bottle and pump-part care, and keeping separate overnight records for each baby. They can also help establish a calm rhythm to the night while remaining responsive to each baby’s individual cues and needs.

For parents who are breastfeeding, pumping, combination feeding, or recovering from birth while caring for more than one newborn, overnight support can provide the extra set of experienced hands that makes rest feel possible.

Breastfeeding and overnight newborn care

You can absolutely breastfeed and still receive meaningful overnight support. Your care plan can be built around direct nursing, expressed breastmilk, pumping, combination feeding, or formula depending on your goals and your baby’s needs.

For families who are nursing directly, your practitioner can bring your baby to you when it is time to feed, then take over the diaper change, burping, settling, and return to sleep so you can rest again as quickly as possible. For pumping or bottle-feeding families, they can also support overnight feeds and manage the surrounding feeding tasks.

The goal is not to change how you want to feed your baby. It is to make the night feel more manageable while supporting your feeding goals.

Why Toronto families choose Boboto

Thoughtful care starts with the right people. Our collective brings together experienced, compassionate professionals who are carefully matched to your family, values, preferences, and the kind of support you need most.

Careful matching process

We take time to understand your family, preferences, schedule, and care needs before recommending and matching you with our practitioners. You choose who cares for you.

Our collective reflects the diversity of the families we support. We value care that is respectful of culture, traditions, family structures, languages, and personal preferences, so families can feel seen, understood, and comfortable in their own homes.

Experienced and Vetted

Practitioners are carefully vetted for relevant experience, references, background screening, and current infant CPR and First Aid, with additional credentials verified where applicable.

Responsive, family-led care

Your care plan is shaped around your baby, feeding goals, recovery, household preferences, and parenting values. We support your family’s choices rather than imposing a one-size-fits-all approach.

FAQ

Everything you need to know before care begins.

  • In many cases, families are able to use their insurance benefits and health spending accounts to cover our overnight care.
We can provide estimates and detailed receipts to help support your reimbursement claim once you know the credentials your plan requires. Our multi-disciplinary team gives us the flexibility to support families with a range of benefit requirements.

Once you have that information, send it our way and we’ll help you understand which Boboto care options may be eligible under your plan.

  • We recommend reaching out as early as possible, ideally before your 3rd trimester. This is simply because our schedules fill up months in advance, and we want you to have enough time to select the person(s) that will take care of you and your baby.

That said, plans change and babies follow their own timelines. If your baby is already here and you realize you need more support, don't hesitate to reach out. Our network of over 60 care professionals across the GTA and Ontario allows us to accommodate last-minute requests.

  • Absolutely! Birth is unpredictable, and we understand that babies arrive on their own timeline. We try to maintain full flexibility for your start date whether your little one arrives early or late.
As you get closer to your due date, we stay in close touch so our team is ready the moment you need us.

  • We encourage families to start with a commitment that feels right for them. Most of our families start with 3–5 nights a week for 4 weeks, and then extend for another 2–4 weeks depending on how well their baby is sleeping, and how much support they still need.

We recommend booking early because schedules fill up months in advance, and your preferred caregiver’s availability is only guaranteed once a deposit has been made.

  • Care can begin the same night you return home, or later in your postpartum period, depending on your needs and what was agreed on during your booking process.

  • If your primary caregiver has an unexpected emergency and cannot make a shift,  our approach is to communicate with you as early and quickly as possible to try and reschedule that shift to another night that works for everyone. If you really need support that night, then we will check in with your secondary caregiver for coverage if her availability allows.

Our goal is to always keep your circle of care consistent but you have access to our network of experts whenever life does not go according to plan.

  • Your caregiver is responsible for your baby’s care throughout the overnight shift and will respond whenever your baby needs feeding, changing, soothing, or support.

During quiet periods when your baby is safely sleeping and all care tasks are complete, practitioners may be able to rest depending on your individual care arrangement and overnight setup. They remain responsible for responding to your baby throughout the shift.

We discuss expectations around overnight rest, monitoring, and sleeping arrangements before care begins so everyone is clear and comfortable.

  • Yes our caregivers are trained to support nursing, pumping, bottle and combination feeding without judgment. Complex or persistent concerns are referred to our lactation specialist (IBCLC) or your pediatrician.

All our overnight packages come with free virtual lactation consultations with one of our lactation specialists.

  • Yes. Boboto provides overnight newborn care for twins and multiples in Toronto and the GTA.

Our experienced caregivers can help manage overlapping feeds, diaper changes, burping, settling, bottle and pump-part care, and individual overnight tracking for each baby. Support can be adapted for breastfeeding, pumping, formula feeding, or combination feeding.

Because every set of twins has different needs, we look at feeding schedules, age, household setup, and the level of support your family wants when recommending the right overnight care arrangement.

  • Families often use night nurse and night nanny interchangeably when searching for overnight baby help, but the terms can describe different backgrounds and qualifications.

A Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse is a regulated healthcare professional. A night nanny generally provides overnight infant care, but their training and experience can vary considerably. You may also come across newborn care specialists, whose work is specifically focused on newborn care, feeding, soothing, routines, and parent education.

At Boboto, we focus less on vague job titles and more on clearly identifying each practitioner’s actual training, experience, and scope of care.

Compare night nurses, night nannies and newborn care specialists →

  • Yes. Overnight newborn care can work beautifully alongside breastfeeding.

If you are nursing directly, your practitioner can bring your baby to you when they wake to feed. Once the feed is finished, we can take over the diaper change, burping, soothing, and settling so you can return to sleep without managing the entire wake window yourself.

Your overnight care plan is built around your feeding goals rather than asking you to change how you want to feed your baby.

  • Yes, if bottle-feeding is part of your family’s feeding plan. Your practitioner can offer expressed breastmilk, formula, or combination feeds according to the instructions you have established for your baby.

They can also take care of the surrounding overnight tasks, including burping, diaper changes, settling, bottle preparation, and cleaning feeding equipment used during the shift.

For families who are pumping or working on milk supply, we can also help structure overnight care around your pumping and lactation plan.

  • Yes. If having a Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse is important to your family, let us know during your consultation and we can look at nursing availability within our collective.

Boboto is multidisciplinary, so our overnight team also includes experienced newborn care specialists and postpartum professionals with different backgrounds and areas of expertise.

We are transparent about each practitioner’s credentials so you know exactly who is providing your care and can choose the type of support that feels right for your family.

  • Sometimes. Last-minute night nurse and overnight newborn care in Toronto depends on practitioner availability, your location, shift length, and the type of support your family needs.

If your baby is already home and you have reached the point where you need help quickly, we still encourage you to contact us. We will let you know what availability we have and whether we can arrange immediate or upcoming support.

For families who know they will want regular overnight care, booking in advance gives us the best opportunity to create a consistent schedule and thoughtful practitioner match.

  • There is no universal number. Consider your recovery, partner schedule, feeding plan, nearby family, older children and budget. Many families begin with consistent four- or five-hour visits and adjust after seeing what the first weeks require.

  • Yes. Our postpartum care practitioners are trained to support you with  newborn care, meals, hydration, rest and household logistics while you follow clinical recovery instructions from your doctor. We do not assess your incision or provide medical treatment.
